Linda Campbell-Arthur, L.T.C.L, MA (Clin), CPsychol
With over 20 years' experience working as a Clinical Psychologist in hospital, corporate, school, charity and private practice settings, I have learned the importance of balancing knowledge with supporting people to design their own solutions to life.
I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2002 in South Africa and have had a part-time private practice since then. I worked for five years in corporate settings for the Employee Wellbeing provider ICAS. In this setting I became highly experienced in working with trauma and crisis intervention, frequently supporting victims of violent crime still in a state of acute shock, through their recovery period of several weeks to months. Suicide intervention, bereavement and common mental health issues formed a large part of my work. I was also called on to give managerial consultancy for issues such as conflict resolution between employees and change management support. Executive coaching remains an area that I enjoy.
In private practice I have enjoyed working with a range of clients, from children and adolescents, to adults and older adults, couples and families. I have extensive training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, but I like to work in an integrative and supportive way, also incorporating elements of Compassion-Focused Therapy, CBT and Solution-Focused Therapy where appropriate. My special interest has always been the field of anxiety in all its forms, and specific treatment approaches for anxiety.
In the last five years, while creating a service to support parents of children with additional needs for the charity RUILS , I gained further experience and accredited specialist training in adapting talking therapies for children and young people who have neurodevelopmental conditions, particularly autism. I now split my time between private practice and working for NHS CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) in a Tier 3 Neurodevelopmental Team, where I assess children and young people for conditions such as ADHD and autism. I also provide specialised therapy for youngsters with autism or ADHD who have additional difficulties such as panic disorder or depression.
I am registered as a Chartered Psychologist with the BPS and I am registered with the HCPC (the regulatory body for Clinical Psychologists in the UK) as well as with the ACAMH. I am a frequent speaker and trainer in the fields of anxiety, autism and additional needs.
I have formal training in the following approaches:
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Solution-Focused Therapy for short-term work
- Psychodynamic psychotherapy for deeper insight into long-term patterns
- Play therapy
- Incredible Years® Parenting Program for Autism Spectrum and Language Delays
- Mentalization-Based Treatment for ChildrenFor more details, see my LinkedIn profile
When it seemed like my husband and I were on our own, we heard Linda presenting on Autism and Anxiety for the Charity Ruils. She was such a breath of fresh air - she spoke from the heart and she understood. With astonishing transparency she explained to a packed audience of struggling parents that she herself had an autistic son. Everyone was actively listening and questions were flooding in. Suddenly, someone really understood!
